Professor Keith Haines is a Professor of Marine Informatics and the Meteorology Impact Lead for REF2021 at the University of Reading's Department of Meteorology. He leads the National Centre for Earth Observation's Marine Data Assimilation efforts. His research focuses on global energy/water budgets, marine data assimilation, and Arctic sea ice dynamics. He has supervised postdoctoral researchers and PhD students in ocean reanalysis and climate modeling. Haines is affiliated with the Ocean Research Group and Reading eScience Centre. His work integrates satellite observations and climate models, contributing to projects like NCEO, RAMOC, and APPLICATE. He advises on ocean forecasting systems and collaborates internationally on climate prediction initiatives.
Education & Research: Specializes in ocean circulation, climate dynamics, and data assimilation techniques. Active in developing coupled reanalysis systems and improving ocean model accuracy. His recent work addresses Atlantic overturning circulation and Arctic shipping route projections.
Grants & Projects: Leads NCEO initiatives and contributes to NERC-funded projects (e.g., RAMOC, ERGODICS). Involved in FP7 ECMWF reanalysis (CERA20C). Supervises interdisciplinary teams in ocean biogeochemistry and coupled modeling.
Labs/Teams: Part of the National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO) and collaborates with the Met Office on ocean forecasting systems.
