Rico Allen serves as Assistant Professor of Saxophone at Tarleton State University, teaching applied saxophone, chamber music, and directing Jazz Ensemble II. He also holds adjunct positions at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (Jazz Appreciation, Hip Hop History) and the University of Texas at Tyler (Saxophone, Music Appreciation).
He earned his BME from Tarleton State University (2018), MM from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (2021), and DMA in Performance with a related field in Wind Conducting from the University of North Texas (2024).
Dr. Allen's research advocates for diversity in music through expanding saxophone repertoire with works by underrepresented composers, as seen in his dissertation on Steven Banks' Come As You Are. His chamber group Lotus Saxophone Quartet actively programs diverse works.
An active educator, he maintains a private studio in Dallas-Fort Worth and is the Resident Jazz Saxophone Clinician at R.L. Paschal High School.
