Ria Mazumder is an Associate Teaching Professor at Widener University's School of Engineering, specializing in Biomedical Engineering. She holds a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from The Ohio State University (2016) and an MS from the same institution (2013). Her research focuses on biomedical signal and image processing, with a particular emphasis on cardiac mechanics using MRI techniques like magnetic resonance elastography. She integrates interdisciplinary approaches blending electrical, biomedical, and mechanical engineering with medicine to address clinical challenges.
Dr. Mazumder is dedicated to engineering education, advocating for hands-on, real-world applications to enhance student learning. She has advised multiple award-winning student teams in national competitions, including third place at the SB3C NSF UG Student Design Competition (2023) and first place (2019). Her civic engagement efforts, such as STEM workshops with local schools and healthcare clinics, earned her Widener’s Faculty Award for Civic Engagement (2022).
Her work includes collaborations with the Boys & Girls Club of Chester via a PECO-funded initiative and partnerships with community health clinics to develop low-cost medical solutions. These projects emphasize social responsibility and community impact, aligning with her teaching philosophy of involving students in applied, socially conscious engineering.
