Rhys Davies is a Senior Lecturer in Film and Media at De Montfort University, affiliated with the Leicester Media School within the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Media. He serves as Programme Leader for the MA International Film Production and plays a key role in student experience and postgraduate programme leadership.

Rhys Davies is a filmmaker and educator whose research interests span Folk Horror, Post-truth Documentary, Transnational Filmmaking, and Sustainable Filmmaking. His work explores the intersection of cultural identity, oral histories, and global sustainability through cinematic storytelling. He is particularly interested in how documentaries contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in an era of misinformation.
His research is supported by affiliations with the Media Discourse Centre, Institute of Creative Technologies, and the Cinema and Television History Research Institute at DMU.
Rhys Davies is an active contributor to academic and professional discourse, having presented conference papers on independent filmmaking in the post-pandemic era and transnational models for borderless filmmaking. His work emphasizes indie opportunities and the role of documentaries in promoting social change.

Rhys advises on postgraduate film programs and leads the MA International Film Production. He is also the Leicester Media School Champion for the Student Experience and Engagement Committee and represents CEM on the Taught Programmes Management Committee. He has led projects such as the Transnational Filmmaking initiative with the London School of Public Relations in Jakarta and co-investigated the Sustainable Development Goals Film Festival, now in its fourth year.
He is involved in research and outreach efforts that connect filmmaking with global issues, emphasizing ethical, sustainable, and transnational practices in media production.
