Dr. Rhodri Hayward is a Reader in Medical History at Queen Mary University of London's School of History. He holds editorial roles for History of the Human Sciences and co-founded the Centre for the History of Emotions and Centre for the Study of the Home. His research focuses on how modern sciences like psychiatry have shaped understandings of selfhood in Britain, with particular attention to emotions, neuropsychiatry, and the intersection of science with culture and religion.

Public engagement includes TV/radio appearances (e.g., ITV's Secrets of the Asylum) and collaborations with artists like Lloyd Newson and Nye Thompson on emotion, AI, and performance art. He supervises doctoral research in medical humanities and has examined over 20 PhDs.
Notable contributions include books like Psychiatry in Modern Britain and Resisting History: Popular Religion and the Origins of the Unconscious, as well as influential articles on topics like electroencephalography, Victorian mental health, and the cultural history of prophecy.
