Dr Chris Millard is a Senior Lecturer in the History of Medicine and Medical Humanities, and Senior Tutor at the University of Sheffield's School of History, Philosophy and Digital Humanities. He holds a BA and MA from the University of York and a PhD from Queen Mary, University of London. His research focuses on the twentieth-century history of psychiatry and medicine, particularly self-harm, suicide, illness deception (e.g., Munchausen syndromes), child abuse, and the welfare state's influence on medical practices. He has authored A History of Self-Harm in Britain (2015) and is currently writing a history of illness deception and a study on 'parity of esteem' in mental health policy.

- Emotions history and medical anthropology
Public Engagement: Co-creator of the award-shortlisted Carnival of Lost Emotions, exploring historical emotional expressions through public events. Also involved in projects like the Wellcome Trust's 'Feeling Spectacular' program.
Teaching: Leads courses on twentieth-century British emotions and medical humanities. Supervises PhD students in medicine, psychology, and social policy.
