Regina Freer is a Professor and Department Chair of Politics at Occidental College, appointed in 1996. Her office is located in Johnson Hall/McKinnon Center for Global Affairs (Room 305), with office hours on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:00-2:30 PM and by appointment. She holds a B.A. from UC Berkeley and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.
Her research examines the intersection of race, demographic shifts, and urban governance, particularly in Los Angeles. Key projects include analyzing policy responses to Black population decline in U.S. cities and writing a political biography of Charlotta Bass—a 1952 U.S. vice-presidential candidate and African American activist.
Freer serves as chair of the Los Angeles Black Worker Center's board and previously contributed to the Center for Juvenile Law and Policy, Southern California Library for Social Studies, and Liberty Hill Community Funding Board.
