Dr. Rebecca Hasdell serves as the lead for Determinants of Health and Health Equity in Population and Public Health at the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC). She holds an adjunct professor position at the University of British Columbia's Northern Medical Program and serves as a research advisor with Stanford's Basic Income Lab.
Her educational background includes:
- PhD in social and behavioural sciences from the University of Toronto
- MPH in social and behavioural sciences from the University of Toronto
- BA from the University of Calgary
Dr. Hasdell specializes in applied, interdisciplinary research examining how social and economic determinants produce health inequities. Her work focuses on evidence syntheses, policy evaluation, and governance of intersectoral policy related to income supports, food security, and neighborhood environments. She integrates these findings to advance health equity across British Columbia's public health system.
Her scientific contributions include:
- Research on population health effects of social and economic policies
- Development of health equity frameworks for public health practice
- Advisory role with Stanford's Basic Income Lab connecting income policy to health outcomes
