Kate Smolina serves as the Scientific Director of Data, Analytic and Knowledge Translation Services at the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) and holds the position of Clinical Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia School of Population & Public Health.

Dr. Smolina earned her BSc in Biomedical Science from the University of Guelph, followed by a DPhil in Public Health from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. She completed a Banting Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at UBC where she investigated factors influencing population medicine use and associated health outcomes.
Her research focuses on chronic disease epidemiology, multimorbidity, linked data, and health policy. She has made significant contributions to public health surveillance in British Columbia through her leadership of the BC Observatory for Population & Public Health and development of the Chronic Disease Dashboard, which enables comparison of serious illness rates across different regions of BC.
Dr. Smolina has received notable recognition including the CIHR Institute of Health Services and Policy Research (CIHR-IHSPR) 2016 Rising Star Award for her postdoctoral work. She also holds a Certified Health Executive (CHE) designation from the Canadian College of Health Leaders.
Her work bridges academic research and public health practice, translating data into actionable insights for health policy and population health management across British Columbia.
