Dr. Kate Jongbloed is an epidemiologist and Senior Scientist for Population and Public Health at the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC). She holds an adjunct professorship at the University of Victoria’s School of Public Health and Social Policy, focusing on systemic health inequities. With over 15 years of experience, her work addresses the impacts of settler colonialism, white supremacy, and Indigenous-specific racism on community wellness.
Her research employs mixed methods to document structural determinants of health disparities, emphasizing cultural safety and anti-racism frameworks. She leads the U&U Lab at BCCDC, dedicated to transforming public health systems through decolonial approaches.
Dr. Jongbloed completed a CIHR Health Systems Impact Post-Doctoral Fellowship under Dr. Danièle Behn Smith’s mentorship at the BC Office of the Provincial Health Officer. Awards include the CIHR fellowship for advancing health equity research.
She collaborates on community-driven initiatives and policy reviews to address Indigenous-specific racism, aligning with her lab’s mission to foster trustworthiness in public health.
