Rebecca Fitzgerald is a Professor of Cancer Prevention at the University of Cambridge and serves as the Director of the Early Cancer Institute. She is also an Honorary Consultant in Gastroenterology & Oncology at Addenbrooke’s Hospital and a Fellow in Medical Sciences at Trinity College, Cambridge. Her academic roles include leading the CRUK Early Detection Programme and the International Alliance Cancer Early Detection.
Research Interests: Rebecca's work focuses on early cancer detection, particularly for oesophageal and hereditary diffuse gastric cancers, with a strong emphasis on genomics, biomarkers, and Barrett's oesophagus. She has pioneered the Cytosponge device for non-endoscopic cancer screening, transforming clinical practices.
