Ranjit S. Bindra is the Harvey and Kate Cushing Professor of Therapeutic Radiology and Professor of Pathology at Yale School of Medicine. He serves as Vice Chair for Translational Research in Therapeutic Radiology, Scientific Director of the Chênevert Family Brain Tumor Center at Smilow Cancer Hospital and Yale Cancer Center, and is Co-Director of the Yale Brain Tumor Center. His clinical practice focuses on the treatment of adult and pediatric primary brain tumors and brain metastases.

Dr. Bindra's laboratory research focuses on DNA repair mechanisms in brain tumors, particularly gliomas. His group made the seminal discovery that IDH1/2-mutant tumors harbor a profound DNA repair defect that renders them exquisitely sensitive to PARP inhibitors - work published in Science Translational Medicine and Nature. He has identified multiple novel synthetic lethal interactions including DIPG-associated PPM1D mutations conferring NAMPT inhibitor sensitivity and loss of MGMT conferring synergistic tumor cell killing with ATR inhibitor and TMZ combinations.
His research spans from basic science to clinical translation, with multiple ongoing clinical trials testing novel therapeutic approaches for brain tumor patients. His work on KL-50, a candidate imidazotetrazine for drug-resistant brain cancers, was featured in Science Magazine. He is the PI or co-PI of several biomarker-driven Phase I/II trials, including an NCI-sponsored 35-site Phase II trial testing olaparib in adult IDH1/2-mutant solid tumors (NCT03212274).

Dr. Bindra received his BS from Yale University in 1998, followed by both MD and PhD from Yale School of Medicine in 2007. He completed his medical internship, radiation oncology residency, and post-doctoral research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, finishing in 2012. His laboratory performs small molecule, siRNA, and CRISPR/Cas-based screens to identify novel tumor-specific synthetic lethal interactions and develops nanoparticle-based drug delivery strategies to bypass the blood-brain barrier.
