Raka Ray is a Professor and Dean of the Division of Social Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley. She also holds the Sarah Kailath Chair in India Studies and chairs the Center for South Asia Studies. Her research focuses on gender, postcolonial sociology, emerging middle classes, and social movements in South Asia. Ray’s work bridges theoretical inquiry with empirical studies, particularly examining how class, gender, and inequality intersect in domestic, political, and cultural contexts.
