Her work explores intersections between film, sociology, and critical theory, drawing inspiration from the College of Sociology and the Frankfurt School.

She also examines public screens in London and Cairo as part of the Leverhulme-funded 'Spaces, Connections, Control' initiative, culminating in the Amsterdam University Press volume Mediatizing Public Space.
Her scholarly contributions include the monograph Hollis Frampton’s Nostalgia (MIT/Afterall, 2006) and articles on filmmakers such as James Benning, Kenneth Anger, and Patrick Keiller. She previously authored Savage Theory: Cinema as Modern Magic (Duke, 2000), which analyzes film’s relationship to modernity and magic.
