Agustín Rico-Albero is a Senior Lecturer in Spanish and Film Media at the University of Hertfordshire (UK). He holds a PhD in Film Studies from the University of Leicester (UK) and teaches Spanish language/culture, European film, and intercultural communication in media contexts. His research focuses on Spanish and Catalan cinema, particularly violence representation, adolescent cinema, and avant-garde film aesthetics.
Education: BA in Modern Languages (University of Valencia/Nottingham Trent University), MA in Humanities (Carlos III University of Madrid), Postgraduate Diplomas in Audiovisual Translation (UAB) and Teaching Spanish (Universidad Antonio de Nebrija).
Research interests include war films, violence representation in cinema, Catalan cinema avant-garde, and pedagogical approaches to language learning. He has co-organized interdisciplinary symposiums like 'Bodies in Transformation' (2016) exploring fictional body representations in media.
Key contributions include chapters in Catalan Cinema: The Barcelona Film School and the New Avant-Garde (2024), (Re)viewing Creative Practices in Contemporary Spanish Cinema (2014), and Directory of World Cinema: Spain (2011).
Awards: Fellow of The Higher Education Academy since 2011.
Teaching contributions include the MA in Film and Television Aesthetics (online/onsite). Current research explores formal experimentation in modern Spanish cinema and cultural memory in film narratives.
