Rachel Monaghan is a Professor of Peace and Conflict at Coventry University's Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations, where she has held leadership roles since 2020. She previously served as a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Ulster University. Her expertise spans over 25 years of research on political violence, terrorism, and counter-terrorism measures, with a focus on informal justice systems, paramilitary violence, and technological approaches to security.
Education: PhD in Sociology (University of Reading), MA in International Studies (University of Reading), BA (Hons) in Peace and Conflict Studies (Ulster University).
Research Interests: Her work examines single-issue terrorism (e.g., animal rights activism), counter-terrorism technology, criminal justice approaches, and the impact of informal justice in divided societies. She has contributed to journals like Terrorism and Political Violence and Studies in Conflict and Terrorism.
Awards: Recognized for research supervision excellence, including the Coventry University Supervisory Team of the Year (2022) and UUSU Learning & Teaching Awards (2018).
Editorial Roles: Joint Editor-in-Chief of Behavioral Sciences in Terrorism and Political Aggression, and Editorial Board Member of Studies in Conflict and Terrorism.
