Javier Argomaniz is a Senior Lecturer at the University of St Andrews' School of International Relations, affiliated with the Handa Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence. His work focuses on counter-terrorism policies, civil society roles in peacebuilding, and victims of terrorism. He has authored books including Resisting Terror: Civil Action and Non-Violent Resistance to Terrorism in Basque Country (OUP, 2025) and edited volumes on terrorism victimology and EU counter-terrorism. He co-directed EU-funded projects analyzing victims' needs and conflict prevention.
Teaching includes courses like Understanding Terrorism and Research Methods in International Relations. His research explores European responses to transnational terrorism, radicalization prevention, and civil resistance dynamics. Grants include a 2013-2015 EU PFAC Action Grant on victim narratives and a 2011-2012 EU project on transnational justice.
His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to peace, justice, and strong institutions. Advises students on terrorism studies, counter-terrorism strategies, and civil society activism.
