R. Quentin Grafton is a Professor of Economics and Australian Laureate Fellow at the ANU Crawford School of Public Policy. He holds the UNESCO Chair in Water Economics and Transboundary Water Governance and directs the Centre for Water Economics, Environment & Policy (CWEEP). His expertise spans water justice, climate policy, and resource economics, with a focus on governance challenges in water, energy, and fisheries.
Education: B.Ag. Econ (Massey), MS (Iowa State University), PhD (University of British Columbia). He has served in key roles such as Chief Economist at the Australian Bureau of Resources and Energy Economics and Director of the Australian National Institute of Public Policy. His awards include the Eureka Prize for Water Research and the ANU Excellence in Supervision Award.
Research interests include sustainable development, FEW nexus, and resilience strategies. Over 180 peer-reviewed articles and 17 books highlight his contributions. Recent work addresses global water governance, climate change impacts, and equitable resource management.
Key initiatives: Global Commission on the Economics of Water, Water Justice Hub, and UNESCO Chair activities. Collaborations include international panels on fisheries, energy, and disaster resilience.
