Prof Quentin Grafton is a Professor of Economics at the Australian National University (ANU), holding the UNESCO Chair in Water Economics and Transboundary Water Governance. He directs the Centre for Water Economics, Environment & Policy (CWEEP) and convenes the Geneva Actions on Human Water Security and the Water Justice Hub. His roles include Australian Laureate Fellow and former Chief Economist at the Australian Bureau of Resources and Energy Economics (2011-2013).
Education: PhD in Economics from the University of British Columbia (1992), MS from Iowa State University, and B.Ag.Econ from Massey University.
Research focuses on water justice, the Food-Energy-Water nexus, resilience, urban water pricing, energy security, and fisheries management. He has published over 180 articles and 17 books, with awards including the Peter Cullen Eureka Prize and ANU teaching commendations.
Key projects include the Global Commission on the Economics of Water and the Murray-Darling Basin reforms. His work integrates Indigenous knowledge systems and emphasizes policy reforms for equitable resource management.
