Professor Quentin Hanich is a Professorial Fellow at the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security (ANCORS), University of Wollongong, and holds the Nippon Foundation Ocean Nexus Chair. He leads the Fisheries Governance Research Program, focusing on equitable ocean governance, marine conservation, and sustainable fisheries management in the Indo-Pacific. His work spans international treaty negotiations, climate adaptation strategies, and capacity-building for coastal states.
He chairs the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission's Technical Committee on Allocation Criteria and advises UN bodies like the World Ocean Assessment. His research emphasizes transboundary resource equity, food security, and the socio-economic impacts of climate change on fisheries-dependent communities. He collaborates with institutions such as Global Fishing Watch, the Korean Maritime Institute, and Solomon Islands National University.
Prof. Hanich has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications, focusing on tuna governance, marine protected areas, and fisheries transparency. His recent work addresses challenges like seabed mining legitimacy, disproportionate conservation burdens in transboundary fisheries, and adaptive governance frameworks for climate-driven shifts in tuna stocks.
