Qiuli Zhao is a Teaching Professor of Chinese Language in the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Michigan's College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA). She teaches Chinese language courses spanning elementary to advanced levels, including specialized courses in Business Chinese, Classic Chinese, and Media Chinese.
Her educational qualifications include:
- M.S. in Chinese Language Studies, Contrastive Linguistics: English and Chinese (2008), School of Humanities, Beijing Language and Culture University, P. R. China
- B.S. in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language (2005), School of Humanities, Beijing Language and Culture University, P. R. China
Dr. Zhao's research centers on digitizing traditional teaching methods through digital media and applications to enhance student engagement. As an ACTFL OPI tester, she specializes in Chinese oral proficiency testing development. Her scholarly contributions include co-authoring the 2012 textbook "The Routledge Course in Business Chinese" after three years of dedicated work, with ongoing research in Business Chinese and Classical Chinese pedagogy.
She actively participates in national conferences to present research and analyze evolving teaching methodologies. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes anticipating student challenges, multi-dimensional progress evaluation, and creating expressive language-learning environments. She has coordinated intensive summer programs in Beijing and maintains a lifelong commitment to educational improvement.
