Qiguang Zhao was the Burton and Lily Levin Professor of Chinese at Carleton College, where he taught since 1987. He founded the Chinese language program and pioneered the Chinese Studies in China off-campus program in Tianjin and Shanghai. Renowned for his courses on Taoism, Classical Chinese, and the 'Taoist Way of Health and Longevity,' he integrated Tai Chi and creative teaching methods like 'huajing' (cartoons) into his pedagogy. His research spanned Taoist philosophy, cultural exchange, and East Asian studies. Zhao authored books and articles, including Do Nothing and Do Everything, and appeared frequently on Phoenix TV discussing Sino-U.S. relations. He passed away in 2015 at 67, leaving a legacy of transformative teaching and cultural bridge-building.

Research Interests: Taoist philosophy, Chinese language education, cultural diplomacy, and health through traditional practices.

Memorial: A service was held at Carleton Chapel in March 2015. Memorials were directed to the Qiguang Zhao Fund for Off-Campus Studies in China.
