Qian Wu

Qian Wu, PhD, serves as Associate Professor in the Clinical Research Division and Biostatistics Program of the Public Health Sciences Division at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. She concurrently holds memberships in the Immunotherapy Integrated Research Center (IIRC) and Translational Data Science Integrated Research Center (TDS IRC), and serves as Affiliate Investigator in the Translational Science and Therapeutics Division. As lead biostatistician for immunotherapy trials at Fred Hutch and Seattle Children’s Hospital, she drives statistical innovation in cancer treatment development.

Dr. Wu specializes in developing statistical models that predict patient treatment responses using molecular signatures and biomarker data. Her work optimizes clinical trial design through computational tools like CNVtest, ChIPtest, and Sample N—a user-friendly open-source R Shiny application for sample size calculation. She actively contributes to phase I/II immunotherapy trials and cancer studies targeting head/neck, prostate, and lung malignancies, while also investigating adolescent smoking behaviors for tobacco prevention strategies. Her research bridges complex genetic data with practical clinical applications to identify patient subgroups with differential treatment responses.

As primary statistician and co-investigator, Dr. Wu collaborates extensively with clinicians across cancer centers, hospitals, and pharmaceutical companies. Her dual membership in IIRC and TDS IRC highlights her integrative approach to translational data science in oncology. Current projects include statistical leadership for immunotherapy trials and development of efficient algorithms for biomarker-driven patient stratification.
