Pradeep Mammen, M.D., is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Division of Cardiology. He serves as Medical Director of the Neuromuscular Cardiomyopathy Clinic, Director of Translational Research for the Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology Program, and Co-Director of the Wellstone Muscular Dystrophy Cooperative Research Center. His roles emphasize team-based approaches to patient care and research.
Dr. Mammen earned a bachelor's degree in bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania and a medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine. He completed residencies and fellowships in internal medicine, cardiology, and molecular cardiology at UT Southwestern. He is board certified in cardiovascular medicine and advanced heart failure/transplant cardiology, with over 15 years of faculty service at UT Southwestern.
His research focuses on molecular mechanisms of heart failure and targeted therapies, particularly in neuromuscular cardiomyopathies. Key interests include cardiac regeneration, myocardial dysfunction, and translational research in muscular dystrophies. He leads a molecular laboratory funded by NIH and American Heart Association grants.
Dr. Mammen has authored over 40 journal articles and reviews for major cardiology journals. His awards include Fellowships from the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology. He participates in NIH/AHA study sections and serves on professional organizations including the Heart Failure Society of America and International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation.
His clinical and research contributions span heart failure, transplant cardiology, and regenerative science. He has pioneered studies on ventricular unloading's effects on cardiac regeneration and developed novel biomarkers for transplant rejection. His team's work on dystrophin isoforms and CRISPR-based therapies demonstrates his commitment to advancing genetic cardiomyopathy treatments.
