Katherine C. Michelis

Katherine C. Michelis, M.D. serves as Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and is a member of the Division of Cardiology. She concurrently holds faculty position at the VA North Texas Health Care System in Dallas where she directs the Cardiac and Vascular Rehabilitation program.

Her research focuses on critical areas of cardiovascular medicine including amyloid cardiomyopathy pathophysiology, heart transplantation outcomes, mechanical circulatory support systems, and evidence-based cardiac rehabilitation protocols. These interconnected fields address advanced heart failure management through both invasive interventions and structured recovery programs.

Board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in cardiovascular disease, advanced heart failure, and transplant cardiology, Dr. Michelis joined UT Southwestern's faculty in 2021 after completing her specialized training. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in major cardiology journals and presented findings at national conferences.

At the VA North Texas Health Care System, she leads the Cardiac and Vascular Rehabilitation program which integrates exercise physiology, nutritional counseling, and psychosocial support for veteran cardiac patients.
