Plexousaki Efi

Efi Plexousaki is a Permanent Assistant Professor in Social Anthropology at the University of the Aegean, specializing in Mediterranean ethnography. She holds a law degree from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and a postgraduate degree in ethnology from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris. Her academic career includes teaching roles at the University of Crete, Panteion University, and Democritus University of Thrace. Since 2000, she has been actively involved in minority education initiatives in Thrace, focusing on the intersection of cultural identity and education.

Her research spans representations of health practices in rural Greece, AIDS policies, and the dynamics of minority education. Recent work emphasizes collective identities in Greece and cultural differentiation processes. She has authored books like Culture and School (2004) and edited volumes such as Transformations of Nationalism (2014). Her contributions include ethnographic fieldwork in Thrace, exploring minority women’s educational trajectories and reproductive technologies.
