Professor Kostas Yannakopoulos is affiliated with the University of the Aegean, where he teaches at the Department of Social Anthropology and History. He is the Director of the MA Program "Gender, Culture, and Society" and has held visiting professorships at institutions including the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (Paris), the University of Stockholm, and the University of Gothenburg.

His research spans gender, sexuality, health, and urban space, with a focus on male homosexuality in post-war Greece, feminist/queer theory, and the anthropology of psychoanalysis. He has published extensively on topics such as AIDS, same-sex families, gentrification, and nationalism in urban contexts. His work bridges theoretical frameworks with fieldwork-based empirical studies across Greek, French, and English academic domains.
Selected publications include analyses of homoerotic identity in Mediterranean port cities, the politics of football and masculinity, and the interplay between urban space and social difference. He has served on the editorial board of journals like Historein and the scientific committee of the "Review of Social Researches."
