Pippa Chapman is a Lecturer in Sport Management & Sport Development and Deputy Head of the Institute for Sport, Physical Education and Health Sciences (ISPEHS) at the University of Edinburgh. She holds a BA (Hons) in Sport Studies from the University of Stirling, a PhD in Sport Policy from Loughborough University, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice from the University of Durham. Her research focuses on elite sport policy, particularly in Olympic/Paralympic contexts, talent development, youth disability sport, and governance in sport. She has contributed to international initiatives like the London 2012 International Inspiration program, collaborating with governments and NGOs in Nigeria, Bangladesh, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate Sport Management and postgraduate Sport Policy, Management, and International Development programs. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2025) and has supervised multiple PhD students. Her work bridges sport policy with health policy, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to sport’s societal impact.
Current students include Jingyi Cao, Henry Shiplee, Meg Stone, and Yingying Zhang. Past supervisee Urvi Khasnis has contributed to the field. Pippa’s career spans academic roles at Durham and Brunel Universities, alongside policy work with UK Sport, England Netball, and Women in Sport.
