Professor Phillip Warwick serves as Professor of Radioanalytical Chemistry at the University of Southampton and holds dual roles as Director of GAU-Radioanalytical (a commercial laboratory) and Director of the NNUF-EXACT facility. With over 30 years' experience in nuclear analytical chemistry, he collaborates extensively with industry, government, and academia. His career began at UKAEA Winfrith before joining the University in 1994, including a two-year secondment managing the Environment Agency’s environmental monitoring program for England and Wales.
Research focuses on analytical radiochemistry, radionuclide dispersion in marine/coastal environments, nuclear waste characterization, remediation technologies, and sensor development. Key innovations include novel adsorbents, radionuclide quantification methods, and in-situ sensors. He leads projects on contaminated land assessment, permeable reactive barriers for groundwater cleanup, and automated waste analysis systems.
Professional roles include Commissioning Editor for Applied Radiation & Isotopes, membership in ISO/TC 147/SC3 (international water quality standards), and British Standards Institute committees. He is a Chartered Chemist and Royal Society of Chemistry Fellow.
