Philip B. Yasskin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Texas A&M University. He has held this position since 1988, following roles as Assistant Professor (1982–1988) and postdoctoral fellowships at Harvard University and the University of California, Berkeley. His research focuses on General Relativity, Differential Geometry, and the application of technology in STEM education, particularly in enhancing K-12 education through outreach programs like TAMU Math Circle and Summer Educational Enrichment in Math (SEE-Math). He has developed influential tools such as Maplets for Calculus and MYMathApps Calculus, which integrate interactive learning and web-based resources.
Education: Ph.D. in Physics (University of Maryland, 1979), M.S. in Physics and Applied Mathematics (University of Maryland and University of Pennsylvania), B.A. in Mathematics and Physics (University of Pennsylvania, 1971).
Research interests include theoretical physics, differential geometry, and educational technology. He has been recognized with awards such as the TAMU Sigma Xi Communicator Award (2018), Raytheon Math Hero Award (2014), and ICTCM Award (2008). His grants include NSF-funded projects on augmented reality in STEM education and Noyce Teacher Scholarships.
Outreach initiatives include leading TAMU Math Circle and SEE-Math, fostering math enrichment for K-12 students. He actively contributes to professional organizations like SIGMAA on Math Circles and MAA.
