Nicola D. Edwards is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Delaware State University (DSU), part of the College of Mathematics, Natural Sciences & Technology. She holds a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction with a Mathematics Education concentration from the University of Delaware (2007), an M.S. in Mathematics (1999), and a B.A. in Mathematics from Binghamton University (1995).
Her research focuses on enhancing mathematical proficiencies among K-12 pre-service teachers, particularly from underrepresented and underprepared backgrounds. Key areas include examining the impact of content/methods courses on teaching practices that promote mathematical literacy. She has led NSF-funded initiatives such as the Cyber Infused Mathematics Initiative (2015-2018) and the Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program (2012-2017).
Edwards has received multiple teaching awards, including the 2014 College Teaching Excellence Award and the 2011 DSU Faculty Excellence Award. She teaches courses like Methods of Teaching Secondary Mathematics, Calculus for Business, and Discrete Math. Her publications span topics from technology integration in math education to gender differences in problem-solving strategies.
Professional memberships include the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and the National Association of Mathematicians (NAM). Her work emphasizes equitable pedagogical practices and STEM outreach through teacher training programs.
