Dr Philip Miles is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology and Liberal Arts at the University of Bedfordshire's School of Applied Social Sciences. He holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). His research focuses on 20th century English literature, creativity studies, autodidactic learning processes, midlife identity, and the sociology of popular music. He has held academic positions at Lancaster, Cambridge, Brunel, and De Montfort Universities, and spent seven years in UK civil service as a Policy Advisor and Research Commissioner.

His work bridges sociological theory with creative arts, emphasizing how cultural practices shape personal and collective identities.
Dr Miles' research explores intersections between creativity, geography, and social structures. His ethnographic studies investigate how individuals construct meaning through art, music, and literature in late-modern society. He has also contributed to health-related behavioral change research at Cambridge University's Institute of Public Health.
