Andrew Miles is a Professor of Sociology at the University of Manchester, specializing in culture, stratification, social mobility, and cultural participation. His career spans academic roles at Keele, Warwick, Cardiff, and Birmingham Universities before joining CRESC (ESRC Centre for Research on Socio-cultural Change) part-time in 2004. He currently leads the AHRC-funded 'Understanding Everyday Participation – Articulating Cultural Values' project and co-investigates the EPSRC Step-Change in travel and transport behavior initiative. His research addresses class dynamics, cultural participation, and policy implications, contributing to the Great British Class Survey and co-authoring Social Class in the 21st Century.
Research Interests: Miles focuses on class structures, cultural participation, and socio-cultural change. He explores how class intersects with mobility, urban development, and policy, emphasizing interdisciplinary methods and large-scale projects.
