Philip Eaton

Professor Philip Eaton is a leading academic in Cardiovascular Biochemistry at Queen Mary University of London's William Harvey Research Institute (WHRI), part of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. He holds a BSc from Queen Mary College (1989) and a PhD from the University of Sussex (1990s). His career includes postdoctoral work at the Institute of Psychiatry and a 24-year tenure at King's College London's School of Cardiovascular Medicine & Sciences before joining WHRI in 2019. His research focuses on redox signaling mechanisms in cardiovascular health and disease, particularly cysteine thiol oxidation's role in protein function and therapeutic drug development.

Research Interests: Oxidant regulation of protein function, redox sensing in cardiovascular systems, development of electrophilic drugs targeting redox-regulated cysteines. Key areas include hydrogen peroxide signaling, PKG1α oxidation in blood pressure control, and nitro fatty acid mechanisms in hypertension.
