Peter Van Elsuwege is a Professor of EU Law at Ghent University and a Visiting Professor at the European Legal Studies Department and European Interdisciplinary Studies Department at the College of Europe (Natolin Campus). He holds a Jean Monnet Chair and co-directs the Ghent European Law Institute (GELI), while also serving as a board member of the Centre for the Law of EU External Relations (CLEER) at the Asser Institute in The Hague.
His research focuses on EU external relations law, EU citizenship, and the legal frameworks governing the European Union's interactions with its Eastern neighbors. Key themes include the accession of the Baltic States to the EU, legislative approximation in the Eastern Neighbourhood, and constitutional developments in post-Soviet states.
