Peter Palmiotto

Peter Palmiotto, PhD, is a Core Faculty member in the Environmental Studies & Sustainability program at Antioch University New England. His work focuses on forest ecology in temperate and tropical ecosystems, integrating field research with graduate education.

His research explores forest dynamics in response to disturbances like hurricanes, invasive species (e.g., Hemlock wooly adelgid), and climate change. Key projects include the Monadnock Ecological Research and Education Project (MERE), which engages 100,000 annual visitors to Mt. Monadnock through scientific outreach, and studies in Malaysia and Indonesia on nutrient cycling in tropical forests.

Publications span ecosystem ecology, conservation biology, and applied forest management, with recent papers addressing canopy dynamics, pollinator habitats, and soil-nutrient interactions. His teaching emphasizes field-based experiential learning, technical skill development, and integrating real-world research into graduate curricula.
