Peter P. C. Carlson

Peter P. C. Carlson is an Associate Professor at California Lutheran University specializing in religious history and gender studies. They serve as Director of the Gender and Women’s Studies minor and faculty advisor for the Feminism Is... and PRIDE student clubs, actively shaping interdisciplinary academic programming.

Dr. Carlson’s research centers on late medieval/early modern religious history and gender/sexuality theology, examining textual influences on religious practice. Key projects include analyzing Ashridge Monastic College’s library and writing a biography of its founder Edmund Cornwall, while exploring incarnational theology and queer readings of religious texts. Their work bridges historical scholarship with contemporary gender discourse.

Publications include a 2017 Oxford Handbook chapter on death in early modern English faith, with current projects focusing on queer interpretations of the Revised Common Lectionary and Edmund Cornwall’s biography. These works consistently intersect literature, religious history, and gender theory.
