Joy Schroeder is a Professor at Trinity Lutheran Seminary and the Department of Religion and Philosophy at Capital University. She holds the Trinity Endowed Chair in Lutheran Heritage and has received the Capital University Faculty Scholar Award.
- Education: M.A. and Ph.D. in Theology (History of Christianity) from University of Notre Dame, Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary, B.A. in Classics from Luther College
Her research focuses on medieval and Reformation studies, the history of biblical interpretation, and the role of women in Christianity and Judaism. She is currently writing The Bible in the Lutheran Tradition for Oxford University Press.
Professor Schroeder actively engages in Lutheran (ELCA) ministry and was a key member of the ELCA–Roman Catholic task force that produced the 2015 Declaration on the Way: Church, Ministry, and Eucharist. She teaches core courses in religious foundations, Reformation history, and specialized seminars on women mystics and medieval church history.
