Grace Heaton is a Stipendiary Lecturer in History at Mansfield College, University of Oxford. Her research focuses on gender, religion, and activism in twentieth-century Britain, particularly the campaign for women’s ordination in the Church of England (1968–1994). She challenges historiographical divides between religious and feminist studies, emphasizing the integration of faith into discussions of women’s activism.
Her doctoral thesis, Smashing the Stained Glass Ceiling, uses oral interviews and archival material to explore the lived experiences of Christian women involved in the ordination campaign. This work bridges social history, activism studies, and the history of religious movements.
Teaching responsibilities include modules on British history (1830–1951, 1900–present), gender studies, and historical methodologies. She is affiliated with the Centre for Women’s, Gender and Queer Histories at Oxford, contributing to research on identity, emotions, and subjectivity in modern Britain.
