Jonathan Taylor is a Postdoctoral Research Assistant at Magdalen College, University of Oxford. His research focuses on the social and political history of 20th-century Britain, with a particular emphasis on childhood, family dynamics, and external interventions in private relationships. He bridges historical and psychological disciplines to explore long-term impacts of early life experiences and advocates for the application of historical insights to modern policy discussions. His current work analyzes post-war children’s essays and art to understand evolving social relationships and identities.
Teaching responsibilities include courses such as Approaches to History, War and Reconstruction: Ideas, Politics and Social Change (1939-45), and modules on British history from 1830 to 1951 and 1900 to the present. His interdisciplinary project, Changing Lives, explores life-long effects of childhood experiences and collaborates with policymakers and the public through media engagement.
He has contributed to public discussions via blog posts like Encouraging innovation isn't innovative: Research and looked-after children in the post-war period (2016) and Children’s voices at the heart of research on childhood adversity (2016), highlighting historical perspectives on child welfare and policy. His research integrates cultural, economic, and political histories to address contemporary societal challenges.
