Professor Nick Stargardt is a Professor of Modern European History at Magdalen College, University of Oxford. His research focuses on modern German history within a European context, with a particular emphasis on the social and cultural history of Nazi Germany and the history of children and childhood. He previously specialized in intellectual and political history of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Current DPhil students under his supervision include Nicolas Garraud (Exeter College), Sara McQuaid (Balliol College), and Emma Teworte. He is affiliated with Magdalen College and oversees supervision at both DPhil and Masters levels.
Research interests span economic & social history, political history, and war & military history. His work integrates interdisciplinary approaches to understanding historical narratives and societal structures in 20th-century Europe.
