Libby is an Assistant Professor in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Pennsylvania State University, located in 328 Willard Building. They hold a PhD in Religious Studies with minors in Gender Studies and a Medieval Studies certificate from Indiana University.
Research focuses on intersections of feminist theory, transgender studies, and medieval European history. Current book project Engendering Feeling examines medieval religious texts to explore religion, embodiment, and affect through trans studies. Argues for expanding conceptions of gender to include trans identities and challenges binary gender limitations.
Publications span Transgender Studies Quarterly, Women’s Studies Quarterly, and Literature Compass. Engages topics like trans epistemology, queer theology, and historical analysis of gendered religious figures. Current fellowship: Being Human Luce Foundation Emerging Scholars Program.
Research emphasizes critical rethinking of gender binaries through interdisciplinary lens combining medieval primary sources with contemporary trans theory. Teaches courses at intersection of religion, gender, and affective practices.
