Dr. Kadji Amin is a Visiting Associate Research Professor in the Program for the Study of Women, Gender, and Sexuality at Johns Hopkins University. His research examines materialist genealogies of queer and trans political ideals through interdisciplinary approaches combining transgender studies, sexuality studies, Marxist theory, and literary analysis.
He holds a PhD in Romance Studies (French) from Duke University and is Associate Professor of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Emory University. His scholarship interrogates the unspoken desires that orient queer studies through figures like Jean Genet and examines the historical development of transgender political concepts.
Dr. Amin's first book, 'Disturbing Attachments: Genet, Modern Pederasty, and Queer History' (Duke 2017) received an Honorable Mention from the Modern Language Association. Current book project 'Trans Materialism without Gender Identity' argues for liberating trans politics from gender identity frameworks to develop class-based solidarity with poor and sex-working trans people.
His publications appear in leading journals including TSQ: Transgender Studies Quarterly, GLQ, Social Text, and differences. He co-edited the 'Queer Form' special issue of ASAP/Journal and serves on editorial boards for TSQ and Gender and Women's Studies.
