Kadji Amin is an Assistant Professor in Queer Studies at the Department of Cultural Analysis and Theory, Stony Brook University. His research interrogates the disorienting effects of the queer past on Queer Studies, focusing on historical modes of queer attachment and affective politics.
- Education: Ph.D. in Romance Studies (French) with a graduate Certificate in Feminist Studies from Duke University (2009).
Amin’s work challenges the liberal assumption that same-sex sexuality inherently leads to gay/lesbian identification and community belonging. By analyzing French authors like Jean Genet and Colette, he explores alternative queer attachments beyond modern identity frameworks, emphasizing historical and affective dissonances.
His scholarship has appeared in GLQ: A Journal of Lesbian and Gay Studies, Études françaises, L’Esprit Créateur, and French Studies, reflecting his interdisciplinary engagement with queer theory, French literature, and carceral studies. He is currently finalizing his book manuscript Queer Attachments, which examines historical queer relationalities that disrupt contemporary Queer Studies paradigms.
- Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Humanities (2015–2016).
