Lauren Gutterman is an Associate Professor in the Department of American Studies at the University of Texas at Austin and a faculty member in the Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies Department. She is affiliated with the History Department and serves on the editorial board of Modern American History. Her research focuses on LGBTQ history, gender and sexuality studies, and public history.

Her work explores the intersection of lesbian desire, marriage, and domestic life in 20th-century America, utilizing oral history and digital humanities methodologies. She founded the digital archive OutHistory.org and has published extensively on topics including queer criminalization, suburban culture, and LGBTQ community history-making.
Her recent co-edited special issue of GLQ: A Journal of Lesbian and Gay Studies, titled Queering the Domestic, highlights her commitment to expanding LGBTQ historical narratives. She teaches courses such as Southern Queer Histories and Intro to American Studies, blending asynchronous and synchronous digital pedagogy.
