Lisa L. Moore serves as Archibald A. Hill Regents Professor of American and English Literature and Chair of the Department of Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. She has been a faculty member at UT Austin since 1991, holding appointments in both the English Department and Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies. Previously, she served as Director of the LGBTQ Studies Program at UT-Austin from 2019-2023 before becoming Chair of the Department of Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies in 2023.
Moore's research spans multiple intersecting fields with primary focus on eighteenth-century English and American literature, women's literature, LGBT literature and culture, poetry and poetics, visual studies, garden history, feminist theory, and queer theory. Her scholarship explores the centrality of love between women to literary genres, the transatlantic and multi-racial history of feminist art and thinking, and the importance of poetry to second-wave feminist, womanist, and lesbian cultures and politics. She has published extensively in premier journals including Critical Inquiry, GLQ, Eighteenth-Century Studies, and Feminist Studies.
Moore's literary scholarship demonstrates consistent engagement with lesbian and queer perspectives across historical periods, with particular attention to how women's relationships and sexualities shape literary forms and cultural production. Her recent work has increasingly focused on poetic forms and garden history as sites of lesbian cultural expression.

She also co-founded Gun-Free UT and was named 'One of Ten Americans Who Changed the Gun Debate This Year' by The Trace in 2015. With colleagues, she brought suit against the Governor of Texas regarding campus carry laws (Glass v. Paxton), arguing they created a chilling effect on free speech in classrooms.
