Kadji Amin is Associate Professor in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Emory University. A materialist theorist of gender and sexuality, his research brings empirical scholarship on the history of sexuality to bear on queer and trans theory. His book 'Disturbing Attachments: Genet, Modern Pederasty, and Queer History' received an Honorable Mention for best book in LGBT studies.
His current research project 'Trans Materialism without Gender Identity' challenges contemporary transgender politics by arguing that gender identity was devised by mid-century psychiatry to discipline legitimate transgender being. The research combines historical materialist theory with macro-history to analyze transgender medicine, online discourse, and anthropological perspectives.
