Hil Malatino is an Associate Professor in the Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Pennsylvania State University, with affiliations in the Department of Philosophy and the Rock Ethics Institute. He holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy and a graduate certificate in Feminist Theory from Binghamton University. His research integrates trans and intersex studies, disability studies, and medical ethics to examine violence, resilience, and care in marginalized gender experiences.
Malatino’s work challenges normative frameworks through publications like Side Affects: On Being Trans and Feeling Bad (2022), which explores trans affectivity amid systemic oppression, and Trans Care (2020), critiquing care ethics through a trans lens. His earlier book Queer Embodiment (2019) interrogates intersex medicalization and gender nonconformity.
He has received accolades including the Lambda Literary Award and the Leslie Feinberg Award. Current research explores trans philanthropist Reed Erickson’s archives. Malatino serves as Acting Director of the Rock Ethics Institute and Senior Research Associate there.
