Dr. Peter Merrington is a Lecturer in the Business of the Creative and Cultural Industries at the University of York's School of Arts and Creative Technologies. He joined in 2021 and leads the BA (Hons) Business of the Creative Industries programme. His research bridges cultural studies, media history, and interdisciplinary arts practices, focusing on cultural production, film exhibition, and curatorial practices.
Education: BA (Hons) in Social Science (Durham University), PhD in Fine Art (Newcastle University). Previous roles include postdoctoral research on AHRC-funded projects and work with UK contemporary art festivals like AV Festival as Assistant Director.
Research interests include the relationship between art/film and place, creative labour, and interdisciplinary cultural projects. His upcoming book with Routledge explores interdisciplinary cultural production. He collaborates with artists, programmers, and cultural organizations globally.
Teaching focuses on global cultural production, legal/financial frameworks in creative industries, and industry-driven student projects. Active in PhD supervision for aligned topics.
Key collaborations involve AHRC projects on specialized film audiences and smart urban design. External partnerships include exhibitions, screenings, and artist commissions.
