Karen Fleming is a Professor at the Belfast School of Art, Ulster University, and serves as the Ulster Director of the Northern Bridge PhD Consortium. Her work bridges the creative industries, textile design, and medical humanities, with a focus on sustainability, interdisciplinary collaboration, and community engagement.

Her research explores the ecologies of the creative industries, including textile embroidery, construction, and heritage. She has supervised numerous PhD candidates and led initiatives like the AHRC-funded Future Screen NI cluster.
Recent publications highlight her interdisciplinary approach, ranging from medical education to textile heritage and creative economy policy. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in sustainability and cultural equity.

Her curatorial and artistic practice includes exhibitions like Walls and Borders in Beijing and Legacy in Shanghai, reimagining historical textile techniques for contemporary narratives.
